In
December 2021, all CPI cities in North Sumatra recorded inflation,
namely Sibolga at 0.17 percent; Pematangsiantar by 0.85 percent; Medan
by 0.44 percent; Padangsidimpuan by 0.35 percent; and Gunungsitoli by
0.62 percent. Thus, the combined 5 CPI cities in North Sumatra in
December 2021 had an inflation of 0.46 percent.
In
December 2021, Medan inflation was 0.44 percent or there was an
increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 105.46 in November 2021
to 105.92 in December 2021. Inflation occurred due to an increase in
prices from seven expenditure groups, namely the food and beverage
group. , and tobacco by 1.00 percent; clothing and footwear group by
0.25 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups by
0.10 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance
group by 0.30 percent; transportation group by 0.11 percent; food and
beverage/restaurant supply group by 0.68 percent; and the personal care
and other services group by 0.21 percent. On the other hand, the groups
that experienced a decline in prices were the information,
communication, and financial services group by 0.07 percent; and
recreation, sports, and culture groups by 0.03 percent. The other two
expenditure groups did not experience changes in the index, namely the
health group; and education groups.
The
main commodities contributing to inflation during December 2021 in
Medan include, cayenne pepper, tuna/ambu-ambu fish, broiled chicken
eggs, cooking oil, broiled chicken, rice with side dishes, and fried
chicken.
Of
the 24 CPI cities on the island of Sumatra, 22 cities recorded
inflation. The highest inflation was in Pangkal Pinang at 1.27 percent
with a CPI of 107.16 and the lowest in Pekanbaru at 0.07 percent with a
CPI of 106.53.
